I don't know about you, but I love fresh flowers! Just looking at a fresh bouquet on my table brightens my day. It took at least a half a year, but I eventually found a flower shop within walking distance to my apartment. I can buy fresh roses for about 50 cents each.

This is one of my favorite vacation photos. Just looking at it reminds me of the hot sun, beaches and clear blue water. I can't wait to get back there!

I am a big fan of accessories. Shoes, handbags, scarves and jewelry are things that I can never get enough of. I typically wear black or neutral colors so I love having vibrant accessories to bring my outfit to life. I also love to eat and I don't obsess about my weight, which means it fluctuates (and I'm totally okay with that!). So, accessories are worth the splurge for me because I can wear them no matter what size I am.

As much as I've traveled recently, I think it's pretty normal to bring things back with you from vacation. That way you'll always remember your trip long after you've unpacked your suitcase. I enjoy bringing home a variety of things. Some type of local art is always catching my eye. And I'm really big on practical items. I love buying them, I love gifting them.

It's common in Chinese culture to give gifts. I've received a variety of things in the two years that I've lived here. Here is a glimpse at some of the traditional Chinese gifts I received recently from students, teachers and friends.

In Langfang, it's difficult to get real western food. There are several restaurants that serve westernish food, but the taste and quality is not very good. The price for these dishes is usually very expensive and not really worth it. Chinese food can be incredibly cheap and usually tastes pretty good. We do have a few American chain fast food restaurants in town, but I can't tolerate eating fast food that often.

In Chinese astrology we are currently in the year of the monkey. I purchased this mug from Starbucks shortly after the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) Holiday. I love the shape, gold and white details, and of course the cute monkey design. It has quickly become one of my favorite mugs for drinking tea at home.

Happy 4th of July!
My neighbor, and fellow American, hosted a 4th of July party today on our school campus. A few months ago they opened a new fountain on campus surrounded by picnic tables. This outdoor area is so typical in the USA, but really uncommon here. It's the first area like this that I've seen around the city I live. So to celebrate the holiday, we enjoyed a westernish style picnic with students and teachers.

I'm living in Langfang, which is basically a suburb of Beijing. Although the selection is growing, it is difficult to find international brands or products here. The city is growing and changing, but there is limited foreign influence. Walking down the street or shopping in the main plaza I am still stared at constantly, people take photos of me and treat me as though I am a VIP.
