After we left Rome, the next stop on our honeymoon was Florence.
Our first night in Florence we hiked up to Piazza Michelangelo for a view of the city at sunset.
The next day we had lunch at an outdoor restaurant before we walked through the city streets to take it all in.
Mid-afternoon we stopped for snacks and a liter of wine. We don't usually drink so early in the day, but we thought...why not? We were on our honeymoon after all, why not indulge a little?
It sprinkled on and off all day long so the outdoor cafe had a little awning open to keep us dry. Our favorite snack, dessert or really anytime treat was the tiramisu. It is completely amazing and nothing like I've ever tasted in the states. Of course I gobbled it up so fast (every time) that I never actually took a picture of it. Even if you're not usually a fan, I highly recommend you try it!

That evening we had dinner at a restaurant with views of the Ponte Vecchio. Both the food and the view was amazing.
What trip to Florence is complete without a trip to the Uffizi Gallery and the Accademia Gallery to see Michelangelo's statue of David? I was really impressed with both museums. I love visiting art museums and these are two of my all time favorites.
Another favorite memory of the trip was just walking through the streets taking in some of the incredible architecture.
We took in a lot of the city, but in three days we still didn't make it to see everything, especially considering that we took a day off from museums to just wander the city from one cafe to the next. I can't wait to return someday. Florence is a beautiful city full of history and Renaissance art. It is easily accessible by train. Next time I hope to venture out to the nearby towns to take in the gorgeous Tuscan countryside.
Have you experienced Florence? What did you love most?
I went to Florence in 2007 and loved it. I must go back and explore it again because I was only there for a day or two.
ReplyDeleteI feel exactly the same way!
DeleteI went to Florence as a young teenager many, many years ago and I've been wanting to go back for a long time already! My boyfriend really wants to go again as well and we looked into going there last summer, but with us both moving abroad we just didn't find the time. Maybe some time this year! :) It definitely sounds like a great destination for a honeymoon!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get a chance to go back soon! It was a fabulous spot for our honeymoon!
DeleteLove Firenze! I grew up in southern Italy and loved traveling up north to visit that city. One of my favourite hole in the wall restaurants was in that city. What a great place to go for your honeymoon! x
ReplyDeleteThere are so many other regions of Italy I'd love to explore. We never made it to southern Italy, maybe next trip!
DeleteIt's fantastic! I can't wait to visit again!
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYes it was! I'll never forget it!
